Mantis Takes on Kawerau: Our First Hole Sponsorship

When we started Mantis Golf, we hoped we'd sell some rangefinders. What we didn't expect was that we'd end up making new friends, meeting golfers all over the country and getting opportunities to be part of events like the Kawerau King's Birthday Tournament.

This year, we were proud to sponsor a hole at the annual event — our first ever hole sponsorship — and we decided we should probably turn up and see what it was all about.

And what a weekend.

The golf itself? Let's just say it could have gone better. 😅 After 54 holes, there weren't many fairways left that I hadn't successfully avoided. Somehow, I still managed to win the award for "Most Persistent Player" — which, let's be honest, is a fairly generous way of describing my golf.

Thankfully, the weekend was about much more than the golf. We had an awesome group, including Keegan Jephson, who took out the top gross score, and everyone at Kawerau was incredibly welcoming. The course was fantastic, the atmosphere was great, and we met some brilliant people along the way.

A big shout-out to Reece from The Golf Recipe for encouraging us to sponsor the event, hosting us for the weekend and introducing us to so many people from his home town.

And of course, there was a little Mantis action on the course too. We sponsored a Mantis Golf hole, with honey up for grabs for the closest-to-the-pin winner in our division.

The weekend was a good reminder that sometimes golf isn't actually about the golf.

We're pretty grateful that Mantis has given us opportunities like this — and we're looking forward to getting involved in more NZ golf events in the future.
