About us
We're a father and son duo with a love for golf. We wanted a range finder that delivered precision results, without breaking the bank. We found one we loved, then decided to bring it to fellow golf-loving Kiwis and Australians.
How did Mantis Golf start?
Sam: Preston was spending more and more time on the course, and I wanted to find an affordable rangefinder for him that was still high quality. Easier said than done! The rangefinders available in New Zealand were either cheap models we couldn't trust that had to ship from overseas, or super expensive - too much money for your average golfer. That's when Mantis Golf was born. I worked with an overseas supplier to source a high-quality range finder that had all the premium features we wanted but without the premium price tag.
Are you golf pros? Do you need to be a pro to use a range finder?
Sam: Definitely not! I'm just your average kiwi golfer who loves getting a round in when I can. But a range finder can really help your game as you eliminate the guesswork out on the course. It provides fast, accurate distance information so you can choose the right club for your shot. It doesn't matter if your handicap is 3.6 or 36, a range finder will improve your game.
Preston: I'm no pro....but I'm better than Dad.
Favourite course?
Sam: Fitzroy, New Plymouth is my local and I love it, but Pirongia also has a special place for me as the course I learned to play on.
Preston: Ngamotu, New Plymouth.
Dream course?
Sam: Wouldn't say no to a round at St. Andrews!
Preston: I'd love to play Wolf Creek, Nevada.
